Common Mugwort

Artemisia Vulgaris

Common Mugwort

Origins and uses

A perennial plant, mugwort is harvested south of the Alps in June, shortly before flowering. Not very fragrant, its bitterness is more pronounced. Widespread in the northern hemisphere, it is often found on the outskirts of villages, in squares, in alluvial deposits, along railway lines, especially at medium altitude. It is an easy-to-grow plant and, unlike genepi, we distill its dried and crushed leaves (not its flowers). Mugwort is now widely used in the production of plant-based alcoholic beverages, including aromatised wines such as Vermouths.
