Our vintages of aged génépis in oak barrels

fleur fleur

After several years of aging in oak barrels, our different vintages of aged genepis have finally reached maturity. We talked about it in our last article, especially through our collaboration with the Radoux cooperage. Two products can be discovered now on the e-shop and in our wine shop partners!

The Génépi Hors d’Âge

This 40% vol. genepi is a blend of distilled genepi liqueurs that have been aged in new and old French and American oak barrels. The liqueurs in the blend have been aged between 12 months and 5 years.

At each bottling, between 3 and 4 barrels are selected to be used for a blend that we want to be as constant as possible.

Tasting notes and service:

Eye: Brilliant and limpid dark gold colour.

Nose: Intense and open with notes of herbs, dried flowers and notes of barrel aging that evoke caramel, praline and toast.

Palate: Herbal and spicy where Génépi combines with spicy and peppery notes and the range of pastry aromas provided by the oak casks. The finish evokes green pepper, rosemary, oregano and dried Provence herbs.

Serve in a wine glass or a Cognac glass, very cool, between 4 and 6°, or at the serving temperature of a red wine.

Génépi Hors d'Âge is available on the e-shop and at our retailers in France.

The unique casks

These liqueurs of Génépi Extra Dry at 55% Vol. have been elaborated from a distillation of Génépi and 12 aromatic plants, and from a maceration of Génépi.

They are three vintages from three unique casks, with very particular characteristics. There is no blending here, so the tastes are quite distinct according to the vintages. Three editions limited to about 550 bottles.

1/ #406 cask

Very low in sugar, this liqueur has been aged for four years in an old American oak barrel

Tasting notes and service:

Eye: Clear and bright pale gold color.

Nose: Open and pleasant, where the scents of dried herbs such as basil, peppermint, verbena and lemongrass rub shoulders with the light and subtle notes of a passage in the barrel with scents of caramel and cinnamon.

Palate: Clear, clean and powerful, opening with aromas of genepi flowers and dried Provencal herbs. We find vanilla aromas typical of American oak. The finish is characterized by delicate aromas of cinnamon, clove and cedar as well as notes of citrus and fresh mint at the very end.

Serve in a wine glass or a white brandy glass. The ideal temperature is between 12°C and 14°C.

2/ #706 cask

Very low in sugar, this liqueur has been aged for nine months in a new French oak barrel.

Tasting notes and service:

Eye: Honeyed yellow color tinged with golden and bright reflections.

Nose: Powerful with a well present bouquet of aromatic plants where we find notably scents of thyme and dried basil. Woody aromas are present, without dominating.

Palate: Direct, straight and balanced attack between the floral bouquet and the woody and toasted notes of the wood ageing. The finish is slightly honeyed and the freshness of the Génépi is found at the end of the mouth.

Serve in a wine glass or a Cognac glass. Serve at the temperature of a red wine: 14°C -17°C.
